What We Do

Our Mission

The Back Roads of the South Shore is dedicated to creating an awareness of the area’s historic gems and celebrating the heritage and spirit of the region, while also exploring its full and complicated history and uncovering lesser-known stories of people who lived and worked here.

Since 2003, we have worked together to promote and connect the small organizations that preserve and share local history in 12 towns on the South Shore of Massachusetts.

Today, more than 40 historic sites and museums that preserve the South Shore’s past are operated by members of the Back Roads of the South Shore. Most of these sites are located near Routes 3A and 53, the old paths that connected Boston and Plymouth.
